Company History
Ame Shillington, the company founder, has always been a ferocious reader; she could easily polish off a book in a night. Although she was one of NTS Corp.'s top salespeople, it became too expensive to buy several books a week. Hence, she started buying books at thrift stores and garage sales.
After reading the books, she would take them to local used book stores. Not only was it heavy work and a time sink, often the bookstores wouldn't take them. In January of 2003, she started selling them online.
She soon found that the books were selling faster than she could read them. The lightbulb in her head went on, and soon after she quit her sales job and founded UsedIsBetter.
Since then sales have taken off. UsedIsBetter now carries an inventory of over 55,000 books, and ships over 100 books a day. We have opened additional warehouses in Round Rock, Minneapolis, Madison and Winnipeg. We sell to customers all over the world.
Today, UsedIsBetter has expanded to all types of media, including CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs, and is active in the community partnering in fundraising with many prominent non-profit orgnizations like Special Olympics, SafePlace Women's Shelter, Austin Independent School District, and many other local churches, teams, and groups.
